Calling the contents of one cell into the other
Using the names of other cells in a cell means that you want the contents of those cells whose names you are using.
This is known as Cell References
There are three types of cell references
Note: This is very useful when you are copying the contents ( with the name of other cell/s) of a cell to other cell
|
|
Top |
Using Functions and the three types of References
Tap on the cell A1
Enter the value 15
Tap on the cell A2
Enter the value 10
Tap on the cell A3
Enter the value of 5
Tap on cell C4
Tap on the Function Selector key ( fx ) on the non-qwerty keyboard
Select the function SUM() at the end of the list
that appears (
)
Select the cells from A1 to
A3 (
)
Tap on some other cell and the result of the sum of the values in cell A1, A2 and A3 are shown in cell C4
Change one of the values, tap on the Next key and the result in cell C4 will change too
Relative Reference
Note: A1:A3 is known as relative reference, meaning the three cells before this cell in row number and in the second column on the left
Selects the cells A1 to A3
Tap on Menu Bar and select Copy from the Edit menu
Selects the cells B2 to B4
Tap on Menu Bar and select Paste from the Edit menu
Similarly Copy cell C4
Paste it in the cell D5
Note: The formula will automatically convert to =SUM(B2:B4)
The result in cell D5 will be 10

Formula 2 (12)
|
Absolute Reference
Tap on cell C4
Open the qwerty keyboard
Tap on the SMBL key
In the Data entry field add a $ mark before both
As and 1 and 3 (
)
Tap on cell C4 once again
Copy the cell
Tap the cell D5
Paste altered formula in it
The result in cell D5 will be 30
Note: With absolute references the formula does not changes as it is copied to some other cell
Mixed Reference
Delete the $ mark
from A3 in the formula in cell C4(
)
Copy and paste the formula in cell D5
The result in cell D5 will be 42
Note: A1 in the formula was absolute so that did not change but since the formula is in D5, the non absolute argument A3 changed to the name of the cell that was one row number less than D5 and was in second column to the left (B4). This formula being in cell D5, summed up all the values from A1 to B4. Cell A4 and cell B1 had no values
Tap on cell B1
Enter the value 3
The result in cell D5 will change from 42 to 45
Some Examples
| =1+2-3 | 0 |
| =(1+2)*(3+4) | 21 |
| =(A1+B5)*2 | Result of expression using contents of cells A1 and B5 |
| =$A$1+B2 | Contents of cell A1 + Contents of cell B2 |
| =2^3 | 8 (Raises left value to power specified by right value.) |
