The Weston Miniature Railway was originally built in 1981 by Robin Butterell and his team. Trains were run by a diesel hired from the Forest Miniature Railway at Dobwalls and a hunslet loaned from Ken Blackham from the Echills Wood Railway. It was unfortunately not a financial success. Robin moved to Saudi Arabia in 1982 and operation was taken over by Peter Webb (ex Age Of Steam) using a romulus built by TMA Engineering and a diesel locomotive. But by the end of the season the line was put up for sale once again. The romulus locomotive was returned to the suppliers and the diesel moved to Twycross Zoo to settle the outstanding accounts. The line was sold to Bob Bullock the following year. A Cromar White Hymek was bought for operation along with 'Hiawatha' which came from Arnold Bimpson in Liverpool . Four cromar white/severn lamb coaches were also acquired. The line still struggled with financial difficulties until Bob was given operation of the putting green which borders part of the line. When this happened two new engines came '1' (Dylan) and 'Maldwyn'. The Hymek was sold in 1993 to Adrian Sant who then sold it on to a man in Guernsey and 'Maldwyn' moved to Scotland in 1996. 'Petra' came to the railway in 1997 and the parkside tram came in 2001. The railway is a very popular attraction in Weston-Super-Mare and after nearly 25 years it is still going strong.
